So that was…an experience. Still not a fan of the walking foot; convenient, since I broke it. Alas, not the foot to leave installed when you need to wind another bobbin. Fortunately, the ditch foot worked a treat without setting my teeth on edge – putting that in the W column.
Some things have not changed – trying to quilt on a home machine still feels like trying to stuff a squid through a straw. Highlighted my inability to align the front and back pieces, while also lampshading every misalignment and warp in the piecing. Not terrible, but there’s always room for better pressing and squaring up. And taking the time to stop and adjust the bloody overage between wrestling through every. single. line. Maybe dig out the horseshoe clamps since my extra set of hands remains on back order. Or install the casters on the 90lb behemoth.
Can’t unsee the offset between the quilt lines and the stripes on the back. Going to have to find a better way to make the sandwich. If I remember correctly, Karen used painters tape on the wall in the stairwell of her building. Might try that next, cause my laundry closet hack won’t handle that kind of weight and that much open wall space is nonexistent. Thread basting did work out better than pins. Good way to burn through leftover bobbins.
All the wadding lint reminds me that Jinx is overdue for a lube n tune. Still want to check out commercial / industrial straight stitch machines while we’re at the shop.
